Marsala (ancient Lilybaeum), city and
seaport of Italy, at the western tip of Sicily, on the Mediterranean Sea.
Marsala trades in grain and salt, and is well known for its sweet Marsala wine.
Here, in 1860, the Italian nationalist Giuseppe Garibaldi began his conquest of
Sicily. Population (1996) 80,177.
