where cremations can taken place 24 hours a day

 

cremation takes place shortly after death

 

bodies wrapped in cloth are carried to the ghat on a bamboo litter

 

the body is dipped into the Ganges
after it dries, the wood is purchased and arranged
and the body placed upon it

 

the eldest son  makes the arrangements

 

as night falls on the burning ghat
