"Stump" Grave Stones
In Indiana, stone quarries
were the source of much of the Indiana limestone used in various American
public buildings.
This produced a large supply of skilled stone carvers, who in
their spare hours would often produce elaborate grave markers,
many in the form
of tree stumps.
