"Kwanchoksa Stone Bodhisattva (Treasure No. 218)
This largest stone Bodhisattva in Korea is otherwise typical of those fund in the Chunchong-do and Kyonggi-do provinces during the Koryo Kingdom (918-1392). On the head of the Bodhisattva is a cylindrical crown topped with a rectangular canopy. Unusual wind chimes hang from the four corners of the canopy. The disproportionately large face, the simple engraved folds of the robe and the pole-like formation of the body indicate that the Bodhisattva was sculpture by an unskilled local craftsman. The style of the image and the available records show that this is an Avolokitesvara Bodhisattva a Bodhisattva of Mercy". (Located at the Kwanch'ok-sa temple in Chungchongnam-do.)
